Experience Nature
Western Maryland's mountains are perfect for studying nature and enjoying it, too!
The great outdoors are a part of life at Frostburg, where there’s a beautiful view in every direction. You can commune with nature with a stroll through the campus arboretum or take a hike or bike ride just minutes away on the Great Allegheny Passage. Or simply choose a favorite shade tree as a place to study.
The surrounding Allegheny Mountains provide a wealth of resources for studying plants and animals – and geology, geography and environmental sciences as well.
So many options right in our backyard
Within minutes of the FSU campus, you can experience:
- Downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, kayaking, sailing and swimming at Deep Creek Lake
- Rocky Gap State Park’s abundant outdoor offerings, including camping, boating, golf and more
- Bike rides and scenic strolls on the Great Allegheny Passage, which passes through Frostburg on its way from Washington, D.C., to Pittsburgh
- Backpacking, horseback riding, rock climbing, fishing and any other outdoor adventure you can imagine!
Frostburg is an environmentally responsible campus
On the academic side, you can choose from eco-aware programs, including a minor in sustainability. Outside the classroom, you can take part in our Focus Frostburg sustainability awareness day and other environmental events sponsored by the Learning Green, Living Green initiative and the Sierra Student Coalition.
The Lane University Center and the Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology are LEED Gold-certified, evidence of Frostburg State’s commitment to reducing the campus carbon footprint.
It’s no wonder Frostburg’s been listed in The Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges and lauded as a top sustainable “Cool School” by Sierra Magazine.
